Some of the symptoms of monkeypox — particularly fever and rash — are similar to those of chickenpox and hand, foot, and mouth disease, making it important to get the tests done before determining the cause of the symptoms, said Dr. Sharda BaboeKalpoe of the GGD and the Sint Eustatius Health Care Foundation.

“While the children’s symptoms have not been confirmed, we kindly ask the general public to remain vigilant,” added Dr. Babu-Kalpoe, who also appealed to the Statians not to panic.
With cases continuing to grow in countries that have not reported monkeypox in the past, the World Health Organization recently declared it a public health emergency of international concern.
